what is the best way to tapper prednisone medication

I found the schedule on this link quite helpful when I tapered off too fast and got prednisone withdrawl symptoms. (drop dead faigue and pain) Basically, the longer you've been on it, the slower you have to taper, even breaking the pills in half in the end.

In my office this how we do it. You take the same number of pills for 3-4 days. then u take one less pill for the same amount of time. Then drop one pill again for the same amount of time. Continuing until u stop.

Ex. pills per day
4 pills for 3 days, 3 pills for 3 days , 2 pills for 3 days, 1 pill for 3 days
then u r finished.

Truthfully it depends on why u r taking them. If this is a long term treatment for a chronic condition then u need to consult u health provider before stopping any medication.

The best way is to follow the instructions of the physician who prescribed it. Never, never stop prednisone suddenly! It must be stopped gradually.
If you for some reason do not wish to follow the instructions from your physician, get in touch with your pharmacist and ask his advice. Do not get advice from your neighbor or best friend on this.
