Wow ~ I've not taken it but have cousins who have had to. They both gained alot of weight & the male cousin drank water constantly, all day long, & it had to be ice water. He carried a big jug of water with him everywhere he went.
He also warned me to never let a doctor put me on it without taking breaks inbetween to let the body recover. He was given no warnings & after a while, he could not get off it because something in his body had quit working on it is own because it relied on the predinisone to do the job.
My other cousin has to take it periodically for her asthma but recently, she told me she has increased her fiber & has lost 45 lbs. by doing that. Unfortunately u need to avoid fiber right now so that wo not work for you.
You also need to avoid beans, corn, peas, nuts of any kind, apples & tomatoes which can all cause bad cases of diarrhea which u do not need since that is what they r trying to prevent so u can heal. My grandmother had colitis & had to eat a very bland diet until things settled down (her problem was from stress).
Just remembered I had another cousin who took it off & on because she had Crohns but she did not fair well. She also gained alot of weight, took it off, put it back on ~ said she felt like a yo-yo but last time I saw her, she had put it back on. Now I hear she is working to lose it again. She had several surgeries to remove the diseased parts of the colon & eventually had to have it all removed & now has a colostomy.
All I can tell u is u will just have to fight the urge to eat no matter what ur body is telling you. It is going to be mind over matter on this & u need to try & exercise each day & u might want to take up a hobby to try & distract yourself. You might want to see a nutritionist & work with them & get suggestions. See if ur doctor will refer u to someone.
I do wish u well ~ sorry u r going through this & hope u can get it under control soon.
