prednisolone is synthetic steroid, C-21 H-28 O-5, similar to hydrocortisone & used in various compounds as an anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, & antiallergic drug.

prednisone is a synthetic steroid, C-21 H-26 O-5, similar to cortisone that is used as an antiallergic & immunosuppressive drug & as an anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.


Both r steriods, anti-inflammatiory agents, immunosuppressent drugs but r used for different things. Prednisolone is us for antiallergic drug. And prednisone r used in the treatment of RA (rheumatoid arthritis)

Prednisone is used in the management of inflammatory conditions or diseases in which the immune system plays an important role

Prednisolone is used to achieve prompt suppression of inflammation in many inflammatory and allergic conditions

I have been prescribed both in the past (for poison ivy) and asked the doctor the same question - he said no difference.
